Genuine Lineage Counts
We have been providing the highest-level Kyokushin Karate instruction for over 40 years. Our experienced instructors have trained with some of the best in the world and are dedicated to teaching the art of karate to students of all ages and abilities. We have also trained some of the best fighters in the world in many areas of the martial arts.
Kyokushin Karate was created by Masutatsu (Mas) Oyama in the late 1950s. Oyama's student, Sensei Shigeo Kato, brought Kyokushin Karate to Australia in 1968. Amongst his students was Sensei Frank Everett, already an accomplished boxer and black belt in traditional Jujutsu.
The current chairman of the So-Kyokushin Australia, Shihan Cameron Quinn (7th Dan), began training with Sensei Frank in 1971.
In 1976, Quinn lived in Japan for one year and trained with Kyokushin's founder Mas Oyama. Over the years, Quinn returned to Japan numerous times to train with the Master. Quinn also acted as Mas Oyama's interpreter as required, beginning in 1976 until Oyama's passing in 1994.
In 1987, Quinn wrote "The Budo Karate of Mas Oyama", now considered the premier text on Kyokushin Karate. In 2020, Quinn published the long-awaited second edition.
In addition to Kyokushin karate, Quinn has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1994 and holds a black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr. of Gracie Barra.
We hope you can join us in Budo karate training. You won't believe the difference it can make in your life. For more information about So-Kyokushin Australia, use the Contact Form below.
