World So-Kyokushin

The World So-Kyokushin organisation is led with humility and dignity by Hanshi Daigo Oishi, long-time loyal student of Sosai Mas Oyama. In the Kyokushin world, Oishi Hanshi is highly respected both in Japan and internationally. As a young man he graduated from the Wakajishi-ryo uchi-deshi (live-in) program of Mas Oyama. His tournament career was outstanding and to this day his exemplary kicking skills, especially in the First World Tournament in 1975, are spoken of with deep admiration.

Today, Hanshi Oishi takes his responsibility as a student of Sosai Mas Oyama and leader of So-Kyokushin seriously. He leads a rapidly growing international organisation into a promising and bright future, dedicated to the honest representation of what Mas Oyama saw as the essence of Budo Karate.

We have regular training at dojos throughout Australia. So-Kyokushin Australia offers the highest quality Kyokushin Karate in the tradition of what its founder, Mas Oyama, taught, together with a living spirit of growth and development. Our Australian Branch Chief, Shihan Cameron Quinn, was a direct student, interpreter, closely trusted student and confidante over a period of eighteen years (until the Master's passing) , and the author of the most widely read and trusted biography of his teacher, Sosai Mas Oyama. He is highly regarded in the broader martial arts community, and sought after worldwide for his deep understanding of, and his ability to teach with clarity, the highest levels of Kyokushin karate. Shihan Quinn also holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Carlos Gracie Jr.

Mas Oyama created Kyokushin based on an endless pursuit of innovative development. He constantly sought to know what works best under pressure against a skilled opponent. The tournament rules he created in the sixties were so far ahead of their time that even after 60 years they remain unchanged and represent a paradigm of power and realism in karate competition.
